“Dr Iyer is a Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist and the Director of Deakin Specialists. He completed his medical training in India, and formative years in medicine were spent in India and the UK. He completed his Endocrinology training at The Canberra Hospital and ANZAC Research Institute, Sydney. Dr Iyer currently works as a Staff Specialist at Calvary Public Hospital, Bruce, and Clinical Lecturer at ANU Medical school. He is a supervisor and mentor for medical students, interns, and physician trainees and a local examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians specialty examinations. Dr Iyer is interested in all aspects of Endocrinology and Diabetes including Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, insulin pump therapy, adrenal, pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid and androgen deficiency. He is passionate about providing outcome-oriented patient care. “

He has published in peer-reviewed journals and co-authored book chapters in the field of Andrology. Dr Iyer is interested in all aspects of Endocrinology and Diabetes including Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, insulin pump therapy, adrenal, pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid and androgen deficiency. He is passionate about providing outcome-oriented patient care.
Dr Ong received her medical degree from the University of New South Wales. After completing her Nephrology training in Sydney, she completed a PhD in the field of hypertension at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australian National University. Her research has been presented in national and international conferences; and published in peer-reviewed Australian and international journals. Dr Ong is an experienced Nephrologist, previously held positions as a Staff Specialist Nephrologist, Director of Peritoneal Dialysis and Conjoint Senior Lecturer (UNSW) at St George Hospital, Sydney. She is currently a Senior Staff Specialist at the Calvary Public Hospital, Bruce. Her areas of specialisation include chronic kidney disease, refractory hypertension, glomerulonephritis, kidney stone evaluation, dialysis and renal transplantation. She is committed to providing comprehensive and personalised patient care.

Tara Whelan is a Registered Pharmacist and Credentialed Diabetes Educator. Since completing her Bachelor of Pharmacy at Charles Sturt University in 2007, she has gained over 11 years of experience as a Community Pharmacist across Canberra. After developing a passion for helping people with Diabetes in pharmacy, she completed her Grad. Cert. in Diabetes Education and Management through UTS in 2015 and Credentialed with the ADEA in 2017. Since then she has been running a Pharmacy based Diabetes Education clinic in Tuggeranong for over 2 years and is now providing services out of John James Medical Centre in Deakin. Tara has a broad range of expertise in a number of areas including medication management and disease and lifestyle management of pre-diabetes, Type 1, Type 2 and gestational diabetes. She has experience with Continuous Glucose Monitoring, Insulin pumps and insulin management of Type 2 Diabetes. Tara is passionate about client empowerment through education and knowledge. She believes that aligning management strategies with client goals is key to living well with Diabetes.
